Delhi Metro Expansion: Cabinet Approves Two New Corridors Worth ₹8400 Crore

1. Cost and Phase: The two new corridors for Delhi’s metro rail network, approved by the cabinet, will be constructed as part of Phase-IV of the Delhi Metro. The total cost allocated for these corridors is ₹8399 crore.

2. Inderlok to Indraprastha Corridor: This corridor is essentially an extension of the existing Green Line of the Delhi Metro. It will stretch from Inderlok to Indraprastha and will encompass a total of 10 stations.

3. Length and Type of Lines: The corridor will cover a distance of 12.377 kilometers. It will consist of both underground (11.349 kilometers) and elevated (1.028 kilometers) lines.

4. Interchange Stations: This corridor will provide interchange connectivity with several existing metro lines in Delhi, namely the Red Line, Yellow Line, Magenta Line, Violet Line, Blue Line, and Airport Line. This interchange connectivity enhances accessibility across different parts of the city and beyond.

5. Connectivity to Bahadurgarh: In addition to enhancing connectivity within Delhi, this corridor will also improve connectivity with Bahadurgarh, a neighboring city in Haryana.

6. Lajpat Nagar to Saket G-Block Corridor: The second approved corridor is a shorter stretch, spanning 8.385 kilometers. It will connect Lajpat Nagar to Saket G-Block and will be entirely elevated.

7. Stations and Interconnectivity: This corridor will have eight stations and will offer connectivity to multiple existing metro lines including Magenta, Silver, Violet, and Pink Lines.

8. Golden Line (formerly Silver Line): The upcoming Silver Line, now referred to as the Golden Line, will cover a distance of 23.622 kilometers between Delhi Aerocity and Tughlakabad. It will include 10 stations and is part of Phase-IV of the Delhi Metro.

9. Priority Corridors: Alongside the corridors mentioned, there are three priority corridors in Phase-IV, including Aerocity-Tughlakabad, Janakpuri West-RK Ashram Marg, and Majlis Park-Maujpur. These corridors aim to address critical connectivity needs within the city and its surrounding areas.

These developments signify significant expansions and enhancements to Delhi’s metro network, aiming to improve transportation infrastructure and connectivity for residents and commuters.
