This year, on August 13, Google will have its yearly hardware launch event two months ahead of schedule. It is anticipated that the Pixel Watch 3 will be revealed at the same time as the Pixel 9 family, which will have more models than before. The FCC has previously verified that the Pixel Watch will be available in two sizes for the first time.

More information is now available thanks to a fresh leak that purports to come from a Google insider. According to reports, the Snapdragon W5 SoC and a unique co-processor will power the Pixel Watch 3.

The 45mm Watch 3 will feature a 420 mAh cell for potentially longer battery life than the 41mm model’s 310 mAh one. The resolution of the smaller Watch 3, which measures 32 by 32 mm (up from 30 by 30 mm on the Pixel Watch 2), and the larger Watch 3, which measures 36 by 36 mm, are 408×408 and 456×456, respectively.

The Pixel Watch 2 and the original Pixel Watch will both have the same general design, but the screen bezels will now be marginally smaller. This source claims that Google will reduce the circular bezel’s thickness on the Pixel Watch 3 from 5.5mm to 4.5mm, a full millimeter.

Even though it’s still a lot of bezel, there is a (modest) improvement. In addition, the new watch’s screen will be brighter overall, reaching a maximum of 2,000 nits. That is significantly more than the Pixel Watch 2’s 1,000 nits. We don’t claim it’s “double the brightness” since, likely, the brightness won’t appear twice as bright in person because the perceived brightness doesn’t follow a linear scale. Still, this is a positive development.

The FCC has previously confirmed that the Pixel Watch 3 would support UWB, which will allow for exact device detection when used in conjunction with Google’s Find My Device system. Theoretically, you could also use this to turn your Pixel Watch 3 into a car key, provided that automakers are amenable to the notion. Hyundai, Kia, and BMW, for example, currently accept UWB, but doing so requires that they also support the Pixel Watch 3 specifically, so we’ll see how that works out.

The 41mm Pixel Watch 3 will be available with bands of various colors and case hues in silver, black, and gold. The case for the 45mm model will be available in silver, black, and hazel.
