In Haryana, Nayab Singh Saini was chosen to succeed Manohar Lal Khattar as the Chief Minister of the state. This decision came after Khattar resigned from his position amid tensions within the ruling alliance between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Jannayak Janata Party (JJP). The cracks in the alliance were exacerbated by failed negotiations over seat-sharing for the Lok Sabha elections.
Nayab Singh Saini, who hails from the OBC (Other Backward Classes) community, is a Member of Parliament from Kurukshetra and had been serving as the state president of Haryana BJP since October the previous year.
The Khattar cabinet, which included 14 ministers, saw resignations from all members, including the Chief Minister and three members from the JJP faction led by Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala.
The BJP holds 41 seats in the 90-member assembly, while the JJP has 10. Additionally, the ruling coalition has the support of six out of seven independent MLAs. On the other hand, the main opposition party, Congress, has 30 seats, with smaller parties like the Indian National Lok Dal and Haryana Lokhit Party holding one seat each.
The BJP had previously won all 10 Lok Sabha seats in the state during the 2019 general elections.
Reacting to Khattar’s resignation, Congress MP Deepender Hooda suggested that the political developments in Haryana were reflective of public discontent with the incumbent government, indicating a desire for change.

Reacting to Khattar’s resignation, Congress MP Deepender Hooda indicated a sense of change brewing in the state’s political landscape, suggesting that public sentiment had turned against the incumbent government. The Congress party, along with other opposition groups, is closely monitoring the unfolding events.
