During the 2024 Parliament session in New Delhi, the Bharatiya Janata Party accused Rahul Gandhi of insulting Hindus in his speech, leading to portions of his speech being expunged. The trigger for the controversy was Mr. Gandhi’s direct criticism of the BJP and the RSS, accusing them of violence against minorities and stating “Aap Hindu ho nahin… (you are not Hindu)”.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, strongly retaliated against Mr. Gandhi’s remarks, claiming that he had insulted all Hindus. Mr. Gandhi, armed with a copy of the Constitution and images of religious figures, including Lord Shiva, launched a scathing attack on the BJP and the RSS. Prime Minister Modi responded twice to Mr. Gandhi’s comments, emphasizing the seriousness of labeling the entire Hindu society as violent.

Despite facing jeers from his opponents, Mr. Modi highlighted the importance of respecting the position of the Leader of the Opposition, currently held by Mr. Gandhi. The opposition has accused the government of undermining the Constitution, a claim dismissed by the BJP. Mr. Gandhi, who added “Jai Samvidhan” to his oath last month, humorously noted the BJP members repeating the same after him. In his fiery speech, Mr. Gandhi condemned the assault on the idea of India, the Constitution, and individuals who opposed such attacks, claiming that many opposition leaders had been personally targeted and some were still imprisoned.

The Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who is part of the Congress-led INDIA opposition bloc, is currently in Delhi’s Tihar Jail due to his arrest in the liquor policy case. During a recent speech, Mr. Gandhi displayed images of Guru Nanak Dev and highlighted the commonality in their poses, specifically the outward-facing right hand, which is also the Congress’s symbol. Speaker Om Birla admonished him for this action. Mr. Gandhi emphasized the significance of the ‘abhaya mudra’ in dispelling fear, stating that it is a symbol of safety in Hinduism, Islam, Sikhism, Buddhism, and other Indian religions.

Mr. Gandhi’s comments sparked a fierce backlash from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who claimed that Mr. Gandhi had insulted all Hindus. Armed with a copy of the Constitution and pictures of religious leaders like Lord Shiva, Mr. Gandhi took aim at the BJP and the RSS with great venom. Prime Minister Modi addressed Mr. Gandhi’s remarks twice:

Following a rebuttal from the Prime Minister, Amit Shah called for an apology from Mr. Gandhi, citing the connection of violence with Hinduism as incorrect. He also mentioned the Emergency imposed by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. The RSS also responded, with Sunil Ambekar expressing disappointment in the association of Hindutva with violence by individuals in important parliamentary positions.

BJP leader JP Nadda criticized Mr. Gandhi for his performance in the Rajya Sabha, accusing him of spreading lies and promoting Hindu hatred.

BJP’s Claim of Rahul Gandhi’s Insult to Hindus and Its Consequences

“On the first day, it was the worst show!

Rahul Gandhi’s lies and anti-Hindu sentiments were on full display in the Parliament.

The three-time failed LoP demonstrated a tendency for Hindus flawed logic and agitation. His speech today highlighted his lack of understanding of the 2024 mandate (his third consecutive defeat) and his absence of humility.”

Rahul Gandhi’s address was partially erased when the Bharatiya Janata Party accused him of insulting Hindus at the 2024 Parliament session in New Delhi. Mr. Gandhi’s outspoken criticism of the BJP and the RSS, together with his statement “Aap Hindu ho nahin… (you are not Hindu)”, served as the catalyst for the issue.

Rahul Gandhi should promptly issue an apology to the Hindu community for labeling them as ‘violent’. It is concerning that this individual has been reported to have referred to Hindus as terrorists in front of foreign diplomats. The deep-seated animosity towards Hindus needs to come to an end.
