Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently spoke at an event in Ahmedabad where he inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for railway projects totaling ₹85,000 crore. These projects include the launch of 10 new Vande Bharat trains and various infrastructure developments aimed at modernizing the railway system in India. The event took place in the Sabarmati area, following the Prime Minister’s visit to the Dedicated Freight Corridor’s (DFC) Operation Control Centre in Ahmedabad.
During his speech, PM Modi highlighted the significant improvements in the Indian railway system under his government’s leadership. He criticized previous administrations for neglecting the railways due to political interests, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing national development over political gains.
Key initiatives inaugurated and foundation stones laid by PM Modi include railway workshops, loco sheds, pit lines/coaching depots, new railway lines such as the Phaltan-Baramati line, electric traction system upgradation work, and sections of the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC). The DFC sections inaugurated are the New Khurja to Sahnewal section of the eastern DFC and the New Makarpura to New Gholvad section of the western DFC. Additionally, the Operation Control Centre (OCC) for the western DFC in Ahmedabad was also inaugurated.
PM Modi emphasized the significance of these projects for the youth and the nation’s future, stating that they guarantee a brighter future for the country. He underscored the critical role of railways in national development, citing examples of developed countries where railways played a pivotal role in economic growth.
Furthermore, PM Modi highlighted recent reforms aimed at transforming India into a developed nation (‘Viksit Bharat’). He mentioned that his government has significantly increased funding for railway development compared to previous administrations, illustrating their commitment to modernizing the railway infrastructure.
In just over two months of 2024, PM Modi’s government has inaugurated and laid the foundation for projects worth ₹11 lakh crore, reflecting the scale and pace of development initiatives undertaken by the administration.
